There is heavy traffic towards the M25 as five-day “emergency” repair work has begun.

Thames Water put temporary traffic lights in Chorleywood Road, Rickmansworth, this morning (January 19) to carry out “urgent” repairs, Hertfordshire Highways has confirmed.

This is expected to last until Wednesday (January 24).

Minutes after confirming that the restrictions were in place, at around 12.30pm, Highways warned motorists that there were delays heading west to M25 Junction 18 due to the lights.

The two-way signals are by the junction with Chestnut Avenue.

On traffic website One Network, the roadworks are listed as “emergency” and “delays possible”.

Google Maps shows heavy traffic in Chorleywood Road early this afternoon near the M25 junction and stretching back beyond Loudwater Lane.

UK Power Networks also has traffic restrictions in place in the Rickmansworth area. Dog Kennel Lane has been closed to traffic since January 16. It is set to remain shut until 6pm tomorrow and a diversion route is in place.
