Rail disruption after an engineering train derailed has been extended to the end of tomorrow.

The train came off the tracks during planned engineering works between Shepherds Bush and Wembley Central at the weekend. This cancelled services on the London Overground and Southern Rail between Watford Junction and Clapham Junction.

Disruption was initially set to last until the end of Sunday (January 21), after being confirmed that morning, but was later pushed back to 5am today and then the end of today.

But this morning (January 22), an updated message has confirmed that trains running between Watford Junction or Willesden Junction and Clapham Junction are now expected to be disrupted until the end of tomorrow (Tuesday, January 23).

Southern Rail has said that, “due to the complexity of the derailment”, work to re-rail the engineering train “has taken longer than expected.

“In additional to this, the derailment has resulted in damage to the points and the overhead electric power lines and so these will require additional repairs,” the rail company added.

“This means our West London Line route is unable to be served today and tomorrow, Tuesday January 23.”

It comes amid widespread travel disruption as Storm Isha batters the region – with a Met Office yellow weather warning having been in place when the derailment occurred.

Tickets will be accepted on alternative public transport routes.

All Southern services between Clapham and Watford will be suspended tomorrow while London Overground trains are unable to run between Shepherds Bush and Willesden Junction. The Overground is also disrupted between Stratford and Clapham Junction.
