Watford Borough Council has approved plans for a 15 metre 5G tower in North Watford.

CK Hutchison Networks, which owns Three Mobile, was given permission to install the pole in Colne Way yesterday (March 27).

Once installed, the monopole would be on grass between the A41 and the footpath on the opposite side to the football pitch at Meriden Community Centre.

As well as the pole itself, the plan includes six antennas and four equipment cabinets.

The approval included a condition that the mast and cabinets must be painted dark green "in the interests of the visual appearance or the site" and work must begin within the next five years.

Information submitted with the plans said there is “a specific requirement” for a new mast on the footway of Colne Way.

“The search area is very small for this new installation," CK Hutchison added.

“The existing sites in this area of North Watford are struggling to cope with demand and an increase in capacity is required.”
