An agreement for a new businesses to take a major Watford pub location is set to be completed soon.

The Colombia Press, in The Parade, closed on February 6 after initially being put on the market in September 2022.

Today (August 2), Wetherspoon confirmed the pub is now “under offer” and said it is “hoping to exchange on the property shortly”.

However, the pub company added that no specific dates have been confirmed.

In May, Wetherspoon had said “interest” had been shown but did not disclose how far along the process any potential deals were.

According to a listing by the real estate company Savills, the boozer is held on a lease expiring on August 30, 2030, at a rent of £124,500 per annum subject to an upwards only review in 2025.

It was closed as part of a “commercial decision”, a Wetherspoon spokesperson said in February. Its name was stripped off the site and metal sheets were placed over the window front.

Across the country 22 more Wetherspoon pubs are at risk of closure.
